<abstract>

Official holidays serve cultural and social functions while also shaping leisure time and tourism demand. Yet equal holiday entitlements do not necessarily provide households and regions with equal opportunities to travel. Using documentary critique and conceptual argumentation, this article reassesses Iranian holiday policymaking through the lens of spatial justice. It examines three interrelated problems: the predominance of an occasion-centered approach, the mismatch between a uniform national calendar and climatic diversity, and the lack of coordination between work and education calendars. Drawing on legal, economic, and tourism studies, the critique argues that policy evaluation must extend beyond the number of days off to consider purchasing power, accessibility, the continuity of shared family leisure time, and destination capacity. A gradual, evidence-informed reform process, institutional coordination, and targeted support for underserved groups and destinations could help shift policy from calendar equality toward spatial justice. The actual effects of these reforms, however, require independent empirical assessment.
